Discourse Analysis

Discourse studies are the discipline devoted to the investigation of the relationship between form and function in verbal communication. Another definition of discourse is a stretch of language having the quality of unity. As such, a discourse is necessarily meaningful and communicative. A discourse may be built up from several either grammatical or ungrammatical sentences. It can be in the form of a very short notice as in STOP or in a very long essay.
