WHEN LOCAL MEETS GLOBAL: RELIGION, RITUAL, AND CONTESTATION IN LOMBOK

Plurality has created divisions and people fall into the categories of majority or minority status. Studies on minorities often discover and represent the sad picture of their position. Some peoples to mention are Shiah and Ahmadiyah in Indonesia, as well as Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. Maintaining justice and equality, therefore, become urgent to sustain the very basic rights of minorities. The disadvantageous position of religious minorities,
such as Ahmadiyah, who suffers from severe repression, as explained in chapter VI, proves not to be the only representative feature of minority life in Indonesia.
